Parting Ways…for a Time…

Hey, there, people. Just a bit of housekeeping, really. 😏

First things first-I am not disappearing. I repeat: I am NOT disappearing! The title says for a time, after all! 🙂

To vanish for good is something I refuse to do after all the wrestling matches I have had with my writing!

However, lately, I am recognizing the need for an extended break stirring restlessly in my soul.

And instead of packing up my play things, pressing the delete button, and scurrying off for a year or two as in blogs past, I am choosing to be proactive…

The fact is, I believe the Lord’s wooing me to a period of quiet, a deeper, more purposeful digging in the Word (Please pray as I seek the time for such! My life has not often been conducive to uninterrupted study, as some may recall! 😉).

It’s not always the easiest thing to acknowledge, but I think it happens to all of us at one time or another, this pressing need to steal away from the busy, even if some of that busy be positive.

To truly, deeply tune in to the voice of Jesus, there are simply times we must tune out the clamor of the world.

It’s even harder to acquiese to the time surrender required- even to some things you might really like- to assuage our need.

Not to mention, it’s just plain tough sometimes to continuously spin your heart into words and extend them to an audience, albeit a very kind, amazingly supportive audience of dear family in Christ such as I see all of you as. ❤️

So…I am officially taking a break from here-writing, reading, all of it. ( I am very regretful for the reading part. I gain so much from each of you and don’t like to feel as if I am neglecting to support your work! Know you will be ever in my thoughts and prayers.)

Now, I haven’t set a time for this sabbatical’s conclusion as of yet, but I am imagining at least a few weeks.

It doesn’t really do to limit time with God or bargain with Him on what He asks of me!

So, with that, I will say see you all in a while. Blessings and prayers! Looking forward to seeing what He has to show me and hopefully sharing with you down the road! 🙂

Words Rendered Useless

Ok. Comments on. Still can’t understand the issue completely. Thanks for bearing with me! Blessings to you! ☺

Words.

Always seeking a perfect crafting.

Seems forever I am drafting…

How I love to weave you

In patterns enormously elaborate

Or whittle you carefully down to

Allow sparing truths to fit.

But, there are times when you

All but vanish,

Behaving almost as banished,

Leaving me with a nameless

Something

Stinging my tongue,

Though not painfully:

And that single, well-known melody alights itself

Softly, reverently…

Holy, holy, holy

Is the Lord God Almighty…

My heart surrenders to the phrase,

Rendered otherwise wordless

By the echo of endless praise

To come,

Of knowing and lifting Him high.

Oh, to embrace the ultimate sum

Of all our existence!

To freely fling my hands to the sky,

Ending all resistance!

To join in sinking to my knees

Before the throne,

To know this King

Loves me as His own!

To sink back in the peace,

To rejoice in the ceasing of

All my consternation,

And at last lay aside the

Mad scramble for

A poet’s perfection.

My apologies for the comments not being on. I can’t seem to remedy the situation myself this time. At least, not at present. 🙄 I think this is becoming a problem for tech support! Blessings and prayers and thanks for reading at any rate! 🙂

Peace Personified

I was going to save this for Christmas Eve, but, much as I love the fellowship I have found here, I honestly want to be more mindful in the moment versus being on WordPress as the special day draws near, so I thought I would slip this in a little early…

Anticipation.

Air is hushed with it tonight.

Every limb lays still.

Moon provides a gentle glow, yet bright.

Starry hosts pinpoint velvet heights,

A gathering of God’s light upon the silent fields.

Creation to the moment quietly builds,

Humming all the truth it knows.

Festivities there have been;

Festivities are yet to come.

Busy buzzes as only busy does.

But, when I pause, I join in the knowing…

I can hear the whispered

Reminder of

A promise fulfilled,

A cover over my wretched owing.

And darkest deed comes undone.

Redemption’s born,

Peace is personified.

Veils tremble, ready to be torn,

Word in flesh nestled in a manger,

Wholly humble,

Wholly king,

Wholly unable to be

Denied.

The whole earth sighs relief

As an answer arrives at long last

For its grief, and

Fresh chance for belief

Is birthed at last to the broken

Soul.

Christmas, a celebration:

Christ inhabits a newborn babe

To inhabit us anew

And in us let His peace unfold…

Merry Christmas, dear friends! May we be filled with the wonder of anticipation, the celebration of Jesus come to earth, the joy of redemption, and the promise of peace fulfilled. Much love and many prayers!

The Surrender of Rest

I have been thinking a lot about what to write to you next.

Last time we visited here, I was feeling the gray cloak of depression wrapping around me.

It isn’t quite so pronounced now, but, neither is it a “poof! it’s gone” type of situation.

Rarely is.

For a while, silence overtakes me. Perhaps, it is God’s way of bringing me to the surrender of rest.

An area I admit to struggling in quite often.

And, then, to speak again?

Well, it becomes a bit like fighting through masks of cobwebs.

Seeking out the words and stringing them together at these times can become a much more painstaking process than usual.

But, as this is where my heart is at, this is the place from which I’ll write.

So… let’s talk about rest.

Oh, not mere physical rest, as important as that is to the finite bodies He has created for us.

But, rather, spiritual rest, that which our souls crave, stifle it though we will with the stuff of life.

If there’s one thing that keeps a soul down, it’s always being “on the go”.

Meetings over here. Volunteerism over there.

Portfolio development and perpetual networking and staying plugged in, oh, my!

Midnight oil and then some, just to get ahead. Ahead of what or who, I’ve never been sure, but it’s what they say. 😏

And then, lest we forget, even “leisure” time is booked up.

Little leagues and lessons for the young sprouts, regimens and “vacays”, complete with Insta-whatever photo-ops for the adults. 🙄

Doing the things because we just have to do all the things.

We do, don’t we? 🤔

Well, I can answer that with one resounding…

Poppycock! 🙂 ( Yes, I do enjoy an excuse to use some funny words now and again.)

Anyway…

Some stuff is obviously fun but ultimately not too meaningful ( I believe Solomon summed that up well in Ecclesiastes. 🙂).

But, what about all the other things? The church things? The good things?

Well, where some of the stuff we do, is, in fact, not without its merit, especially when it comes to serving God, even that often becomes means of clutter when in excess.

For, too many times, these pursuits, good or not, can become that which detracts from the One our focus ought to center on.

Even as believers, our eyes can wander from seeking a personal relationship with Jesus to zeroing in on doing “Jesus” things.

Almost without our noticing, many times.

Because the devil knows how to make busy look the same as blessed to us.

It isn’t that we should all just sit around all day in a never-ending chillfest.

That becomes another issue altogether! ( See Proverbs for the woes of the sluggard.🙂)

No, the idea isn’t to do nothing.

It’s to pursue Jesus first, to read His words, to seek His guidance in all the things we do and what things He’d have us do (as well as what to say that difficult but necessary “no” to!).

To take Him up on the rest He offers instead of bypassing it on the way to whatever’s got our attention now.

And, just maybe, even learn a little silence in Him.

Blessings and prayers to you, friends. May we all pursue Him first.
